COMMUNITY OUTREACH

As the owners of Sail San Diego, we were so pleased and eager when we took over the company 5 years ago, because we knew it would give us an incredible platform to integrate ourselves into the community. Community outreach is very important to us and we find giving back a huge priority and feel very fortunate to be able to be in a position to try and make a difference through donations!

LATEST DONATION:
Though we continually give to various organizations through out the year, we just finished being involved in one of our biggest donations to date.

We have just finished with our second big sailing donation with a local non-profit group here in San Diego called Outdoor Outreach. Outdoor Outreach is a non-profit organization based in San Diego that works to empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. Outdoor Outreach uses outdoor experiences–mountain biking, surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, snorkeling, backpacking and now Sailing to provide the youth with healthy alternatives to the negative influences (gangs, drugs, violence, abuse, neglect) that surround them and to foster long-term mentor relationships with the positive adults who volunteer and staff our programs. Since the founding in 1999, Outdoor Outreach has served 5,000 youth on 1,500 trips. Over the past ten years, Outdoor Outreach’s programs have evolved from short excursions to the mountains and beaches to comprehensive, multi-year curricula designed to provide the youth with the support, relationships and opportunities they need to become successful adults.

We did two separate sailing days and had two-boats full of young adults. Our Captains graciously volunteered their time and without their involvement, we could never have made these trips possible!

Needless to say it was an incredible experience to take so many kids out on the water and for many; this was their first boating experience. It was great to see these kids working together and really getting involved sailing.

Recycling Donations

Our two great passions are the environment and animal welfare. Sail San Diego is dedicated to a rigorous recycling program and we donate the proceeds to the Natural Resources Defense Council. This organization lobbies Congress and other public officials for a public policy that promotes conservation of the natural and built environment. The NRDC works against urban sprawl, pollution and habitat destruction and promotes actions to mitigate global warming and increase the use of renewable energy.

The San Diego Humane Society- raising over $5,000 over the past 4 years , as well as The Care House, Zoofari, Doctor’s without Border’s, American Red Cross, “Lions, Tigers and Bears”, Humane Society de Tijuana, Best Freinds Animal Society, Lewis County Humane Society, Labrador Rescue, The Nature Conservancy,
Chula Vista Nature Center, Alley Cat Rescue, Make a Wish Foundation, Rally for a Cure, Mama’s Kitchen, Boy Scouts of America, Silvergate Wheelchair Regatta, American Cancer Society and many more.
